Herbert K. Oehmichen (1915–1990) was a United States Army Captain who trained at Camp Ritchie, Maryland, in Class 15. A New York–born interrogator who landed on Utah Beach with the 90th Infantry Division and later helped liberate his mother from Theresienstadt.

Biography

Herbert Karl Oehmichen was born in New York City in 1915 to German parents. He completed POW interrogation training at Camp Ritchie in 1944 and went overseas as an interrogation officer with the 359th Infantry, 90th Infantry Division, landing on Utah Beach on D-Day. He earned a Bronze Star for rescuing wounded paratroopers near Amfreville and, according to family history, later found and evacuated his mother from Theresienstadt. See the full story.
