Biography

Gerard Guyot Cameron was a Ritchie Boy. Gerard served as a First Lieutenant, 218th Counter Intelligence Corps Detachment (Airborne), U.S. Army during World War II. He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war. Gerard was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was also awarded a European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with a Bronze Arrowhead and and 3 Bronze Stars and the WWII Victory Medal. Gerard Guyot Cameron O-285316 Intelligence Service US Army. Buried: American Cemetery and Memorial Margraten, Eijsden-Margraten Municipality, Limburg, Netherlands. Enlisted: Private May 8, 1942 Education: 4 years college graduate B.A. 1931Yale University and attended Graduate School New York University. Civilian Occupation: Municipal Bonds, Banking and Investment Broker. Member of Troop K, Squadron A. New York National Guard 1934-37. Selected for OCS at Fort Bragg, NC and sent to Fort Sill, Oklahoma August 19, 1942 for six weeks. Sent to Camp Ritchie for training in Counter Intelligence Corps August 19, 1944. Went overseas January 20, 1945 and volunteered to go with the 17th Airborne Division attached to XVIII Corps Airborne as a member of the 218th CIC Detachment in the air assault across the Rhine River on March 24, 1945. He was killed by enemy small arms fire after his glider had been hit by anti-aircraft fire while landing on LZ S.
