Biography

Campbell was a Ritchie Boy. Robert was born in June 7, 1921 in Pipestone, Minnesota. He entered service on July 16, 1924. His initial occupation was Field Artillery. Robert trained at Camp Swift,. Texas, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Camp Roberts, Fort Ord, Fort Mt Dowell, California, Camp Murray, Fort Lewis, Washington, University of Washington, Camp Ritchie, Maryland and Camp Clatsup, Oregon. He was sent overseas: March 7, 1944 and returned: January 3, 1946. He served in Southwest Pacific Theatre, and was in the following engagements: Leyte, Hollandia, Western Luzon and Bataan Peninsula, Mindanao. He was awarded the following: Bronze Star, Purple Heart, American Theatre Ribbon, Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon W/3 Battle Stars, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon W/3 Stars and, Bronze Arrowhead. He served at total of 44 months, and cchieved the rank of Captain. Robert Campbell was discharged from Camp McCoy, Wisconsin on March 25, 1946. He passed away on February 10, 2010.
