Julius Siegel (1907–1977) was a Ritchie Boy (from France; Jewish) who trained at Camp Ritchie in class 10.
Biography
RB Siegel considered himself German since the rest of his family was from Mosbach, Germany, and German was his first language. Julius and his sister escaped to England and then were sponsored and came to Chicago. Dan Gross, Camp Ritchie historian, provided a timeline for Ritchie Boy Julius Siegel. Julius Siegel was born on June 22, 1907 in Alsace Lorraine. More information of Ritchie Boy Julius Siegel according to Dan Gross' timeline. RB Julius Siegel graduated with the 10th Class on September 20, 1943 as an Assistant Interrogator (German). On December 1, 1943, he returned from temporary duty, and on February 1, 1944 he was "alerted." On February 18, 1944, RB Julius Siegel was released from Camp Ritchie and transferred to Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn, NY. According to Ritchie Boy historian Dan Gross' timeline, Julius Siegel embarked from the United States on February 21, 1944 on the SS Aquitania with a large group of Ritchie Boys (40 officers and 283 enlisted men). Ritchie Boy Julius Siegel passed away in 1977. These are additional photographs provided by his grand-niece, Romy Block-Posner Ritchie Boy Sergeant T-3 Julius Siegel, was awarded the Bronze Star in addition to a Purple Heart.
