Stefan Heym (1913–2001) was a Ritchie Boy (born Flieg; Helmut; from Germany; Jewish) who trained at Camp Ritchie in class 9.

Biography

Stefan Heym (1913–2001), born Helmut Flieg, was a German-born Jewish Ritchie Boy, novelist, and essayist. He trained at Camp Ritchie in class 9, served overseas rising to technician sergeant, and enlisted from New York City. After the war he became a prominent author in German and English. He appears in a wartime group photograph of Ritchie Boys at Camp Ritchie with Ernest Wynder, Konrad Kellen, Louis Atlas, and Joseph Eaton (see gallery caption).
