Ervin J. Carroll (13 January 1916 – 19 April 1983) was a Ritchie Boy (from United States; Catholic) who trained at Camp Ritchie in class 22.
Biography
. Carroll passed away on April 19, 1983 at the age of 67. Erwin was born January 13, 1916. His Army service began in the early 1940's with Gen. Patton, commander of the 2nd Armored Division, during training at Fort Benning, GA. He also served as an interpreter of Portuguese for U.S. forces in Brazil, and was an instructor specializing in Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish map work at the Military Intelligence Training Center, at Camp Ritchie, MD. He taught techniques of interrogating prisoners of war at the Ground General School, Fort Riley, KS., and was also assistant commander of the 3rd Army Intelligence School at Fort Bragg, NC. Later he served as chief U.S. Intelligence instructor at the Phillipine Armed Forces Intelligence School. An Army professor, certified in the instruction of French, he studied Spanish in Panama, and Japanese in Tokyo. His service included extensive travel in the Orient, South Pacific, South Atlantic and South and Central America. After retirement from the Army, he was a substitute teacher for the Swansea school system, retiring in 1981.
