Fotios D. Demetriou (1917 – 31 January 1944) was a Ritchie Boy (from Alb) who trained at Camp Ritchie in class 4.
Biography
Fotios Demetriou was born in Albania in 1917. He resided in Baltimore, MD, prior to enlisting in the Army on January 14 1942 Fotios served as a Technician Fourth Grade, Counter Intelligence Corps, U.S. Army during World War II, and was Killed in Action on January 31, 1944. He was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart.
The timeline research also records Demetriou, a member of an eight-man reconnaissance patrol, voluntarily dressed himself in civilian clothes, and unarmed, entered a house known to be occupied by enemy soldiers. Served as member of IPW It Team 13 attached to CIC. Served as T/4 member of IPW It Team 13 attached to 3rd Infantry. Buried in Florence American Cemetery. He then returned to his patrol, donned his uniform, reentered the house and accepted the surrender of the seven enemy soldiers who were living therein.
