Timeline
- Born Oct. 12, 1919 in Bad Wildungen, a small town near Frankfurt, to Isaac and Johanna (Leopold) Katz. His father was a horse dealer and later a car dealer. (Boston Globe obit).
- Katz arrived in U.S. in 1938 (from Italy) with his older brother Julius (b. 1910?), and found employment as a sorter of (Persian Lamb) furs. He was drafted into the Army in June 1941, and served as a machine gunner and squad leader with the 182nd Infantry Division in Guadalcanal for one and a half years (Army units relieved Marines); he then volunteered....
