Jerome D. Salinger (1919–2010) was a United States Army soldier associated with Camp Ritchie, Maryland.

The timeline research also records 1939 Entered Ursinus College, but left after nine weeks. 6/1936 Graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy. 9/1936 Entered New York University as freshman. 12/1941 Worked for short period as an entertainer on the MS Kungsholm in the. “Just as Salinger's career was taking off, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and he was drafted into the army. He joined the 12th Infantry Regiment of the 4th Infantry Division where he received additional CIC training. During the time between his arrival in Britain and D-day, Salinger completed six chapters of a novel about a character very much like his own teenage self. In 1999, Paul Alexander published “J. (Information derived mainly from published biographies and Internet sources). Kenneth Slawenski, who wrote the “definitive” biography “J. Salinger: A Life”, published in 2011, noted that Salinger was stationed at Fort Holabird, MD between Oct. To judge by letters and short stories he wrote at about this time, the experience of war had a traumatic effect on him. Returned to Fort Holabird.
