Albert H. Staton Jr. (1 April 1921 – 29 July 2015) was a Ritchie Boy and Chemical Warfare Service officer who later served as an intelligence officer with the 77th Infantry Division in the Pacific and received the Bronze Star on Okinawa.

Biography

Albert Hammond Staton Jr. was born on 1 April 1921 in Atlanta, Georgia. He passed the Georgia Tech admission exam at age 15, earned a B.S. in chemical engineering there in 1941, and married Mary Jane Wilson on 2 April 1943.

Staton served in the U.S. Army from June 1942 to March 1946. He first worked in chemical munitions manufacture at Pine Bluff, Arkansas, then received military intelligence training at Camp Ritchie (Classes 22 and 24). He joined the 77th Infantry Division on Leyte and served through the campaigns on Kerama Retto, Ie Shima, and Okinawa. On Okinawa he received the Bronze Star and promotion to captain.

After the war he spent his career with the family’s Latin American Coca-Cola bottling enterprises (later Panamerican Beverages / Panamco), traveling among plants in Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil. He died on 29 July 2015 in Coral Gables, Florida, at age 94.
