He was a editor, World Publishing Co. From 1936 to 1937 he worked as a story editor, Zeppo Marx Agency. He circa 1938 Married Carol Zerbe (divorced 1943). From 1940 to 1942 he worked as a story editor, Myron Selznick and Co. In 1940 he authored newspaper column about books for The Hollywood Reporter.
