Costa G. Couvaras (1911–1979) was a United States Army Corporal who trained at Camp Ritchie, Maryland, in Class 4.
Biography[edit | edit source]
American Junior College (Salonica); worked as photographer. In 1919, Mother died (Spanish flu/grippe). In 1922, Father died of stroke; went to work full-time as 11-year old orphan. On 12 February 1943, Became naturalized citizen at Hagerstown, MD.

- 1919 — Mother died (Spanish flu/grippe).
- 1922 — Father died of stroke; went to work full-time as 11-year old orphan.
- 6 January 1943 — Entered Class 4.
- 12 February 1943 — Became naturalized citizen at Hagerstown, MD.
- 6 March 1943 — Graduated with Class 4 (Southern Europe).
- 17 April 1943 — Transferred to OSS HQ.
- 2 March 1944 — Commissioned as 2nd Lt. (01704214) Assigned to duty station in Cairo.
- 1 December 1944 — Promoted to 1st Lt.
- 10 September 1945 — Recommended for Silver Star Medal (see Note 1).
- 20 November 1945 — Recommended for Bronze Star Medal.
- By memo dated 10 September 1945, the Chief of SI (OSS), Whitney W. Shepardson, recommended Couvaras for the Silver Star.
- By memo dated 5 November 1945, Major Edmund J. Pung, Recorder, SSU Board of Officers, approved the award of the Silver Star Medal to 1st Lt Costa G. Couvaras as recommended by the SSU Board of Officers and approved by the Director.
- COUVARAS, COSTA G. Appointed OSS-RP. Labor Section 3-44. Served under cover in Greece. Recommended for Silver Star. This folder does not indicate whether the medal was awarded. See field report by Couvaras dated 10-30-45.
