Ralph A. List was a United States Army soldier associated with Camp Ritchie, Maryland.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Ralph A. List was born on 9 June 1917 in Frankenmuth, Michigan, to Emil and Caroline (Hubinger) List. During World War II he trained in interrogation at Camp Ritchie—“Camp Hush-Hush,” as he later called it—and served as a U.S. Army captain with the 337th Infantry Regiment, 85th Infantry Division, in North Africa and Italy, including fighting near Minturno. Fluent in German, he interrogated prisoners who sometimes mistook him for a turncoat. His decorations included the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
After the war List worked for the Equitable Life Assurance Society for thirty-four years, remained active in St. Lorenz Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 150, and lived his full life in Frankenmuth. He died there on 8 November 2019 at age 102.
