Leonard M. McNutt (1913–2017) was a United States Army Major who trained at Camp Ritchie, Maryland, in Class 22.

Biography

Leonard M. “Curly” McNutt was born on 25 December 1913. He joined the 36th Infantry Division of the Texas National Guard in 1930 and was called to federal service with the division in 1940.

McNutt served as a platoon leader, company commander, and battalion adjutant in the 142nd Infantry Regiment before transferring to the Military Intelligence Training Center at Camp Ritchie in 1942. His unit studied the German Army and demonstrated its organization, weapons, and tactics. In 1945 he joined the Eighth Army Historical Section and served in the Philippines and Japan.

Returning to Fort Benning in 1948, McNutt directed Army publications and wrote or revised manuals and training films on mountain, airborne, and guerrilla warfare. He later served on the Far East Command staff in Tokyo and retired as a lieutenant colonel in June 1960 after thirty years of service. His decorations included the Bronze Star. He died in 2017.
