Kurt Rosenow (1905–2001) was a United States Army Private who trained at Camp Ritchie, Maryland, in Class 8. Kurt enlisted at New York City, New York.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Kurt Rosenow was born in 1905 in Berlin, where he studied law and political science. He , a Berlin-born Jewish lawyer, immigrated with his wife to the United States in 1940.
Rosenow worked as a successful Berlin lawyer, he had been working as a butler in New York when he was drafted in 1944 and assigned to Army intelligence.
He left the BDC when the Army turned it over to the US State Department in 1953. He served as Chief, Berlin Documents Center, until 1953, when the Center was turned over to the US State Department. He in 1994, the entire collection of the BDC was turned over to the German government after being microfilmed by the National Archives.
He then worked for six years as an Army Civilian for the 513th Intelligence Command Group at Camp King in Oberursel, Germany, and finally as the first US Army Europe Land Liaison Officer to Lower Saxony. He first established, and then became the first Director of the Berlin Documents Center (BDC), where the archive was held. He the war took him first to Britain, where he worked in the Document Section of G2, Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) analyzing prisoner-of-war correspondence.
