Many called him Fred or Fritz, but Max called him Opa.
Frederick W. Perutz was born on 22 May 1919 in Austria. After reaching the United States he studied photography at the New York Photo Institute and worked as a clerk examining foreign shipping documents.


His grandfather was 1 in a billion. 103 1/2 years old and enjoyed every second of it. May his memory be for a blessing.
He enlisted in February 1943, took additional basic training with the 275th Engineering Battalion in April 1943, and graduated from Camp Ritchie Class 8 on 16 July 1943 (certificate 2584). Later assignments included travel-duty recruiting at ASTP campuses (7 December 1943). He rose to technical sergeant.
