John R. Binford (12 June 1914–) was a United States Army Staff Sergeant and Counter Intelligence Corps investigator who trained at Camp Ritchie (Class 8) and served with the 441st CIC in the Pacific.

Biography

John R. Binford was born on 12 June 1914 in Piqua, Ohio. A college-educated instrumental musician in civilian life, he entered Army service from Fort Thomas, Kentucky (induction 22 September 1941; active service from 22 September 1942).

He attended clerk school at Camp Wolters, Texas, Counter Intelligence Corps training that included Camp Ritchie, Maryland (recorded on his separation papers as CIC CMP Ritchie MD), and CIC advanced training in Chicago. He served as an investigator (MOS 301) and finished the war as a staff sergeant on the Detached Enlisted Men’s List with the 441st Counter Intelligence Corps.

Binford served in the Asiatic–Pacific Theater from January 1944 to November 1945, with campaign credit for New Guinea, the Northern Solomons, the Southern Philippines, and Luzon. His decorations included the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, the American Defense Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He received no wounds in action.

He was honorably discharged on 2 December 1945 at the Separation Center, Fort MacArthur, California.
