Bruce De Bourbon Conde (1913–1992) was a United States Army Captain who trained at Camp Ritchie, Maryland, in Class 20.

Biography

Bruce Chalmers (Bruce Alfonso Bourbon de Conde), officer, philatelist and royal pretender, born California 5 December 1913, died Tangier 20 July 1992. After reading Spanish at the University of California (UCLA), he entered the US armed forces. He was later posted to Japan where he studied Japanese, but his true passion remained the Arab world. After studying Spanish at UCLA, he joined the US Army, serving in the 82nd Airborne in North Africa during the Second World War. He but his heyday did not begin until 1958 when he moved to the northern Yemen. He as a young boy, he was an avid stamp collector, and wrote to the Imam (King) of Yemen, asking for local postage stamps for his collection. He his love of that land, then still a feudal kingdom, began in his boyhood when he wrote to its fearsome ruler, Imam Ahmad, asking for a pen-friend with whom to swap stamps.
