Max Isaac Dimont (12 August 1912 – 25 March 1992) was a Finnish American Jewish historian, lecturer, publicist, and writer. He trained at Camp Ritchie with Class 22.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Max Isaac Dimont (12 August 1912 – 25 March 1992) was a Finnish American Jewish historian, lecturer, publicist, and writer. Dimont was born into a Jewish family on 12 August 1912, in Helsinki, Grand Duchy of Finland, Russian Empire, one of five children. Due to passenger lists on the ship on which they traveled.
Dimont finished high school in Finland, where he learned German. His father, Hyman Dimont, was a merchandise broker and Talmudic scholar, and returned to teaching Hebrew in his later years.
Dimont, who did not speak any English, taught himself the language by reading Shakespeare and the King James version of the Bible. He claims that he spoke "Elizabethan English" or "beautiful King James English" for his first few years in the United States. He finished four years of American high school in two years. He worked part-time at the Cleveland Public Library; his first full-time work was as a salesman at a Thom McAn store, then as a newspaperman.
