Gideon Kantor (born Guido Kantor, 30 March 1925), rostered as Gideonloc Kantor, was an Austrian-born Jewish Ritchie Boy (Class 13) who served with the 4th Armored Division and later spoke publicly about Camp Ritchie veterans.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Gideon Kantor, born Guido Kantor, was an Austrian-born Jewish Ritchie Boy who trained at Camp Ritchie in Class 13. He enlisted from New York City and later served with the 4th Armored Division in the European Theater, where he and Harry Jacobs were fellow division veterans.
In later life Kantor took part in public remembrance of the Ritchie Boys. On 26 January 2018 he attended Bruce Henderson’s talk on Sons and Soldiers at the Greater Washington JCC in Rockville, Maryland, after a screening of Christian Bauer’s documentary The Ritchie Boys. In April 2018 he joined Jacobs and Alfred Shehab at a 4th Armored Division veterans luncheon at Fort Myer in Arlington, Virginia. In October 2022 he was interviewed at Fort Ritchie when Representative David Trone announced legislation to award the Congressional Gold Medal to the Ritchie Boys.
